Lyme Regis boatmen in 1985

This picture turned up the other day. After a lot of thought and a talk with Mike Higgs I think we can say it was taken in 1985.

Boatmen in 1985The North Wall was being strengthened at the time and tons and tons of concrete were pumped in by vehicles that gained access to the North wall by a causeway of rocks and stones laid across the main beach. This stretched from the Harbour Inn to the wooden ladder that is still the main way up onto this wall.

Standing from left to right are: Steve Postles, then still operating a tripping boat; Bill Russell, who owned Amos John; John Owls, whose parents ran The Owls Nest, a chandlery behind the Harbour Inn; John Marks who ran the Swan, me, looking quite tall and thin; Chris Govier, who ran Saucy Sue and Geordie Therwell. who ran Sunbeam for Victor Homyer.

Seated front row from left to right are: Ken Gollop, who had Donna Marie and the Aquarium; Ron Bailey, who at this time had Marlies B and Ron Higgs who had just bought Gannet 2.

Now, nearly 30 years later, I still believe I have the best job in the world, running my Lyme Regis mackerel fishing trips and Lyme Regis deep sea fishing trips.
