My Radio 2 request granted

For the last four years, at the end of the season, I have tried to get a record played on the radio. I’ve tried Radio 2's Ken Bruce and had two attempts at shows on Radio 6 Music, No luck. Then this year I sent an email to Johnnie Walker on his “Sounds of the Seventies” show on Radio 2 which is on Sunday between 3 and 5p.m.                                                                                                   Bluenose dolphin in harbour

I dedicated Joe Walsh's song “Rocky Mountain Way” to everyone who was on my boat, Marie F, the previous Sunday when we had managed to get up very close to a lone bottlenose dolphin.

The dolphin then followed the boat for a full hour, giving everyone on board the full show of swimming all around us and even leaping clear of the water as we first encountered the beast round the back of the harbour wall.

Needless to say there were oohs and aahs from all the passengers during this stunning show.
Thank you Roger Boswell for this picture.

I knew this would be a major vote winner in the Radio 2 studio, plus the fact I had bought one of my boats, “Sunbeam”, from Ian Gillan of Deep Purple whom I had seen in Sydney with Free and Manfred Mann in 1972. Little did I know then that thirty plus years later I would buy a boat from the rock god.

I didn’t hear the record being announced or played as I seem to remember we were looking for a dolphin. No guarantees but you too may see the dolphin by joining one of Harry's Lyme Regis mackerel fishing or Lyme Regis deep sea fishing trips.
